Cost to Eat a Healthy Diet : Money Is Tight, and Junk Food Beckons

The World Bank says nearly a billion people around the world live on a dollar a day, or even less; in the United States, the daily food-stamp allowance is typically just a few dollars per person, while the average American eats $7 worth of food per day.

Currently, Food Programmes :Aid group Urges Switch to Dairy, Egg-Based Food Aid
Submitted by nony1957 on Sat, 10/11/2008 - 11:29.The international medical charity MSF called on Monday for food aid to be based on dairy products and eggs instead of cereals, saying this could save the lives of tens of thousands of hungry children.
MSF, Medicines Sans Frontiers (Doctors Without Borders), said that donor governments should earmark 3.5 billion euros ($4.8 billion) a year for the distribution of such rations with added vitamins, minerals and protein.

Fable:
Nuts increase cholesterol.
Fact-
The truth is far from it. Nuts actually decrease cholesterol levels. If you eat a small quantity of nuts everyday, they reduce the risk of ailments such as diabetes, cancer, heart disease and Alzheimer’s disease. Nuts are a powerful antioxidant which slow the ageing process. The only type of nuts to be avoided are the deep fried and salted variety!
Fable: Red wine is good for the heart.

Any situation involving food should be filled with nothing but joy, so here are some rules to make sure that nothing comes in the way of enjoying your meal!
• Accidentally using someone else’s utensil can be horribly embarrassing. Before you start, look around the table and claim what’s yours! Knives, spoons and liquids are on your right; forks and napkins are on your left.

Quick and easy marinades
Submitted by batista21 on Sat, 09/20/2008 - 23:02.Looking for easy recipes that won’t leave you in a flap? Marinades are the answer! Not only are they quick and easy but also require a lot less oil when you cook.
Here are some them – give them a go!
• All these recipes serve 2
• About 300g chicken breasts cut into strips / 10-12 prawns / 1½-2 cups veggies
• Stir fry chicken strips for not more than 5-7 mins.
• When stir frying chicken, beat an egg lightly and add to the marinade, the chicken cooks much better.
• Keep the bite in the veggies, don’t overcook
• Make sure your oven is pre-heated when baking
